Nerdversity Reviews: Bandai/Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Armoured Tyranno

Released in January 2014, the S.H. Figuarts Armoured Red Ranger was part of the joint Zyuranger and 20th anniversary Power Rangers line. First thing we should do is get the box out the way. Other than the front of the box, the contents are exactly the same. The MMPR version on the left is gold fronted and had has a large graphic of the figure in a pose with both the Dragon Dagger and Power Sword. There's a large MMPR anniversary logo on the bottom. Above all that, there's a large window where you can see the figure and some of the accessories. The Japanese box is a plain red colour with a graphic of the figure on the front. The figure is in a very similar pose, Underneath him, is the copyright information.

The back of the boxes are exactly the same, just changing the name from Armoured Red Range to Armed Tyranno. The back of the box is rather plain in that it has a red background, a run down of the parts you get in the box and two poses on the back.

Taking the figure out the box, here's the figure itself and all the accessories and extras you get in the box. The figure stands about six inchest all and is well articulated and has:
  • Neck
  • Shoulders (restricted by the shield)
  • Bicep
  • Wrist
  • Abs
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Ankles
  • Toes
The parts are the Power Sword, Dragon Dagger, Blade Blaster and optional hand parts for different poses. The Dragon Dagger and Blade Blaster fit comfortably in their sheaths if you so wish to put them in there.

There is a lot you can get out of this figure. He's well articulated, has some fantastic accessories and can be posed any way you want from the TV series. My only real gripes are that the shield isn't a tight fit and i feel it could snap eventually. The shield does hnder the movements of the shoulders and not all the poses look right because of it. Though, really, in this instance, the positives outweigh the negatives.

Yes, he is a remold of the original Red Ranger figure to make use of the new parts on him such as the Power Bands on his biceps, the strapping under the armpits and the fact he now has a Dragon Dagger Sheath on his right hip and does come with the same Power Sword and Holstered Blade Blaster accessories, it's still worth a place in anyone's Power Rangers collection as part of any special rangers shelf or as part of a Red Rangers or even MMPR/Zyuranger collection. The figure sells for around $45 on the secondary market, like Amazon or eBay, so check him out of you haven't already, you'll probably be surprised at it. But, as always, your mileage may vary.
