Many games that were released for home computers and early home consoles generally tended to follow traditional patterns when it came to gameplay. The NES was known to make all new games with different styles.
Bionic Commando was released by Capcom in 1988. It was an arcade style action platform game. Whereas most platform games of that era were similar to Mario, Bionic Commando switched that up by having the hero, Rad Spencer, get around with a bionic grappling arm.
Rather than being straight forward, like other games, Bionic Commando relied on, and rewarded players for exploring. It required the player find the right upgrades and weapons to get past certain obstacles and enemies.
