Nintendo sequels were often very different from their original counterparts. Sometimes, they were good. Sometimes, they felt so out of place.
Konami released Castlevania II in 1988. It was a follow up to the original 1986 hit. It came in that classic silver box. Now, Castlevania was a classic. It was a tough as nails horror game set in Dracula's castle. Castlevania II however, changed all that.
Castlevania II was an action RPG, where Simon was required to travel around and solve puzzles. Killing enemies gave money, which was required to buy new items. Some items were needed to solve puzzles. In the long run, everything that Castlevania II bought to the table has been seen and used again in later games, mainly from Symphony of the Night onwards.
