If there was one genre that the NES had a lot of and did well with, is the action RPG. Ranging from Crystalis, to Legend of Zelda, to Final Fantasy, Rambo and loads more besides.
Dragon Warrior IV was released by Enix in 1991. Interesting fact is that in Japan, the Dragon Quest games are usually released on a weekend. This is simply down to the fact that the franchise is so popular, that people will skip work and education to get the game and play it. One of the major problems with an 8-bit cartridge is that you can't really make a large and immersive story on it, however Dragon Warrior IV was able to buck that trend and give fans the multi-chapter storyline and give an epic endgame.
The game went largely unchanged since the first game and that was what kept gamers interested and hooked. Sadly, fans would not see a western release of a Dragon Warrior game until VII hit the Playstation 2 in 2001.
