Nerdversity Reviews: Tetris (Tengen)

The NES in Europe was considered a colossal failure, even with Nintendo taking over ownership in 1986.

The story of Tetris is an interesting one. It was released as a puzzle game from Russia. This version was released by Atari developer Tengen in 1988. It was released and they quickly found out that Nintendo had the sole rights to release the Tetris game in the United States. A legal battle ensued and Tengen were forced to pull their version off the shelves.

Considered by many to be the best and most definitive version of the game. The gameplay is smooth and responsive. However, since it was pulled very quickly, there weren't that many  cartridges sold and those that are out there, command a high price.
